A single cell does not have the  capacity for generating a
lot of electricity so multiple cells are connect together
to increase the capacity, how many cells depends on the amount                   
of electricity required. The more light available to the solar panels the      
 greater the amount of electricity they can supply

Based on a study by the European Solar Thermal
Electricity Association and Greenpeace International l(Outlook Solar Magazine
2009), it would only take 2% of the solar energy from the Sahara Desert to
supply the world's electricity needs. The instillation would be to massive and
lack efficiency to make such a project practical.....
